In the B2B space, we see this word everywhere.
Some say that it is essential to use "expert."
Some say that it is a bad idea to use it.
Why this conflict, I have often wondered!
I think part of it comes from its overuse.
And part of it comes from the reality
Failing to match the expectations.
What does "expert" really mean?
It indicates deep knowledge,
It indicates high skills,
A true mastery.
You are hesitant to use "expert."
When you know what you don't know.
It is always easier to claim expert status,
When you have vast knowledge on a subject.
But are not aware about what you do not know.
However, in the world of marketing & social media,
If you do not overcome this paradox with confidence,
You will never grow your brand, your business, or career.
This is why I don't dismiss or accept someone, based on whether their profile says "expert" or not. I try to get to know them on a personal level. I have met many experts on LinkedIn, and, I have never checked what their profiles claim!
